Task 11 - Critical Raw Materials now and in the future

Team: Nina & Elena

What are Critical Raw Materials?
CRMs are materials which are significantly important for companies in order to manufacture their products but have a high-risk associated with their supplier. This high-risk is that the materials are very rare and unique and there is a lack of substitutes for them. Nowadays the supply of these raw materials is increasingly coming under pressure. In order to control this problem, the EU commission has created a list of CRMs and is monitoring the CRM market at all times. Here are some examples: More...

Sharing Idea: Food-Ocki

Team: Luana & Elena, BM2 VZA

Food-Ocki

Food Waste is a big topic in the modern world, and sadly it happens way too often. While we are throwing away food because the expiry date tells us to do so (even thought the food is still edible), other people on this earth are starving because they don't have any food at all.

It's nice to see that a lot of restaurants have already found solutions for this problem. For example; customers get notified about the leftover food through an app and can pick it up for a bargain price.

Although not all restaurants are this sustainable, we think the bigger problem are households, like us. Most of us throw food away which could still be enjoyed by somebody else.

So, our idea is: Every big city should open up a Food-Ocki !

What is that, Food-Ocki?

It is a place where you can go to bring your food which you don't want to eat anymore but is still edible. So leftovers or expired, but not bad, food.

What is the Food-Ocki going to do with this food?

We will firstly check if the food really is still edible. If it is, there are 2 options:

Option 1: We bring it to homeless people.
Option 2: We sell it in our shop, for a very low price.

Why the name "Food-Ocki"?

Ocki comes from Brocki, but since we are selling food, it's Food-Ocki... get it? :)

Results

If 10 people would use this system, there would be less Food Waste and min. 10 more people could eat something.

If 10 people would not use this system, there would be a lot more Food Waste and min. 10 people who could have eaten something, are starving now.

Task 7 - Real life energy calculation

Team: Nina + Elena

How much kWh does our class (24 students) consume if every student works with her/his laptop during the 3 (hours) T&U lessons? And how much does it cost?

Try to solve the calculation with these numbers:

Device: laptop
Power: 60 kWh
Duration: 72h (24 students x 3h)
Electricity price: 0.22 cents for 1 kWh

Task 6 - Energy source in my home

In our house we heat with a heat pump (Wärmepumpe) which has an earth probe (Erdsonde).

The probe goes into the earth and takes heat from there and brings it into the house. So we use the earth's heat. It is actually a very environment friendly process, since we don't need any oil or something like that and it's renewable since the earth's heat is always active and doesn't get damaged within this process. But it's very complex since you need to drill the hole (ca. 120 - 150m deep) and put the earth probe inside and everything.

On this picture you can see how it works.

Interesting Projects

1. Food waste at weddigs (dontwastemy.energy)

I like this post becaus I've always seen that there is a lot of food waste at weddings. It's very important for the catering company to take care of this problem. A good idea is to give the leftovers to the guests or homeless people, that would be even better since they really need it.  More...
